About 450 people participated in the first “Trucking for Sarcoma” event, which was organized and hosted by the GIST Cancer Awareness Foundation (GCAF).

“Trucking for Sarcoma” was held during International Sarcoma Awareness Week 2010. All drivers from Marine Transport Company helped raise awareness of Sarcoma with “Sarcoma Knows No Borders” placards on their trucks. They handed out 800 brochures detailing information about Sarcoma, and in particular, Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor. The drivers covered over 160,000 miles during the week driving throughout the East Coast, Ohio Valley and Chicago metro regions.

The Trucking for Sarcoma event raised $30,000 !!!

Saturday, July 24th: Check-in from 6:45-7:45am
Taylors, South Carolina

Our 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk for Hope took place at Brushy Creek Elementary School. We had about 140 runners/walkers pre-register and 50 runners/walkers register on race day. The day was very hot and humid (high 90’s), so the runners/walkers really enjoyed the sprinkler set-up at the water station! Our course was a mix of sidewalk, parking lot, track, and grass, and the runners really enjoyed it. We even had a group of “Sarcoma Warriors” present, all with matching T-shirts on.

Our area’s sarcoma specialists said a few words about this rare cancer before awards were given. Our top male and female finishers received trophies, and the top 2 males and females in each age group received medals with the Jim Hauser Sarcoma Foundation logo on the front and the name and date of our event on the back. After the race we had a 1-mile Fun Run with approximately 20 kids. Each child received a red ribbon with our logo on it after they crossed the finish line. We had music playing to pump up the runners all morning and refreshments served after the race. T-shirts, bags, bracelts, and/or pens were given out to race participants and donations were accepted. About $4,000 was raised for sarcoma research!
