July 23, 2009 in Warsaw, Poland

Thirty-seven people gathered in Warsaw, Poland, on July 23 for a “Sarcoma Update Conference” as a part of International Sarcoma Awareness Week.

At the conference, guest speakers explained issues having to do with sarcoma, cancer prevention and healthy lifestyle to patients and medical staff.

Participants were very interested in Professor Zbigniew Nowecki’s speech about UV rays and skin cancers. Apart from medical aspects, Prof. Nowecki described problems of sunbathing and protection of skin against UV.

Prof. Piotr Rutkowski spoke about clinical trials pursued in our Clinic. Mgr. Joanna Kmita and Mgr. Aleksandra Tabota, psycho-oncologists,  spoke about coping with cancer. They provided help by answering patient questions. Mgr. Małgorzata Czaplińska, ward nurse in Palliative Care, described the functionality of a portacath. She showed a multimedia presentation and answered questions from participants. Finally, Ms. Walentyna Rykiel-Czarnecka from Good Life Foundation spoke about the impact of healthy eating on human living. We received much useful advice about eating and healthy living.

Overall, the conference was a great success, and everyone was appreciative of the speakers’ contributions.
