Kick Off Dinner and Raffle
July 17, 2010
Point Lookout, New York
With our children and their spouses, we funded a Kick Off Dinner at our home on the 17th. After the date was set we decided to do a raffle. My sister-in-law Pat and cousin Nancy solicited donations from local merchants. Jim’s sister Mary made two beautiful quilts to add to the raffle – everyone wanted to win them. Our extended family helped sell the raffle tickets. All were amazed at the willingness of people to support this cause. The funds from the raffle were $3,000.
Kelly and Megan Brown, two sister from our neighborhood, volunteered to serve and clean up at the party. They were fantastic. Everyone loved the sarcoma braclets. The atmosphere that evening was electric and there were continued conversations on the importance of awareness. After the raffles we auctioned off an antique necklace that was donated by Nancy’s neighbor after she heard about the fundraiser. After much screaming and laughing the necklace went for $500.00.
As of today they have raised nearly $17,000 and we are hoping for a few more donations. God bless Bev, Bruce and family for the Liddy Shriver Initiative and their encouragement to all of us to participate in this event. We would like to thank our children, their spouses and our grandchildren for all their encouragement, sacrifice, determination and love that has helped guide us in this battle with liposarcoma.
