As part of Team Sarcoma, the International Sarcoma Awareness Week, the Kansas City Royals teamed with outfielder David DeJesus and Mid America Team Sarcoma to host over 200 patients, survivors and caregivers who have been affected by the rare cancer. Sarcoma supporters pushed that number to 273.

Prior to the game sarcoma patients participated in a meet & greet session with DeJesus, who lost a young family member to the disease in 2008. Patients attending the festivities ranged in age from under 10 to 101. 101 year old Merle McCready, a huge fan of DeJesus was thrilled to meet her favorite KC Royal. McCready was diagnosed with sarcoma just before her 100th birthday.
