Team Sarcoma / MexicoThe “Sarcoma Knows No Borders” Race and Walk

UPDATE:  More than 2,500 people joined in the “Sarcoma Knows No Borders” Race and Walk in Mexico City, which raised nearly $100,000 for sarcoma research and support!

The National Institute of Pediatrics (Instituto Nacional de Pediatria), the National Institute of Genomic Medicine (Instituto Nacional de Medicina Genómica), along with the We Will Never Give Up Foundation (Aquí Nadie se Rinde, A.C.) have joined forces to organize the third “Sarcoma Knows No Borders” Race and Walk on Sunday, June 13th. These events will take place along the circuit of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM). Runners will experience an exciting end to the race by crossing the finish line inside the Olympic Stadium!

This event is being sponsored by the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), the University’s School of Medicine, and the PUMAS Soccer Club. All logistics for the smooth functioning of this race will be provided by AsDeporte.

All participants are asked to meet in the parking lot Number 8 of the Olympic Stadium, where they can walk to the starting line for registration. The “Sarcoma Knows No Borders” racing event will begin at 7:00 am with runner registration. The 10K running part of the race will begin promptly at 8:00 am, followed by the 5K walk. At the end of both of these races will be the 100 meters running and walking races for sarcoma patients.

El Instituto Nacional de Pediatría, el Insittuto Nacional de Medicina Genómica y la Fundación Aquí Nadie Se Rinde han unido esfuerzos para organizar la 3ra. Carrera “El Sarcoma No Conoce Fronteras”, con una Carrera de 10k y Caminata de 5k, el domingo 13 de junio. Esta carrera se llevará a cabo en los Circuitos de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Los corredores podrán disfrutar el final de la carrera cruzando la meta dentro del Estadio Olímpico.

Este evento es patrocinado por la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), la Escuela de Medicina, y el Equipo de Futbol Puman. Toda la logística para el buen funcionamiento de la carrera estará a cargo de As Deporte.

Todos los participantes deberán ingresar por el Estacionamiento No. 8 del Estadio Olímpico de CU, donde llegarán caminando al Registro para la carrera. La 2a. Carrera “El Sarcoma No Conoce Fronteras” dará inicio a las 7:00 am con el registro de corredores. La Carrera de 10k iniciará a las 8:00 am en punto, seguida de la caminata de 5K. Al final de las dos carreras dará inicio la carrera y caminata de 100mt para pacientes con cáncer y niños.

The Mexician National Institute of Pediatrics (Instituto Nacional de Pediatria), the National Institute of Genomic Medicine (Instituto Nacional de Medicina Genomica), and the We Will Never Give Up Foundation (Aqui Nadie se Rinde) have organized a Sarcoma Update Workshop for sarcoma patients, caregivers, and survivors.

Presentations will be given by Roberto Rivera Luna M.D (Mexican Pediatric Oncology Group, Alberto Pappo M.D (Texas Children’s Cancer Center) and Frederic G. Barr M.D. Ph.D (University of Pennsylvania). This will be followed by a round table discussion moderated by Rocío Cárdenas Cardós M.D. with participants Gabriela Escamilla Asiain M.D (Hospital General “Dr. Agustín Oran” Yucatán), Sergio Gallegos Castorena M.D. (Hospital Civil de Guadalajara), Pablo Lezama Valle M.D. (Hospital Infantil de México), Maria Teresa Lanche Guevara M.D. (Hospital “20 de Noviembre”), Gabriela E Mercado Celis M.D. MSc (Instituto Nacional de Medicina Genómica), and Rodolfo Rodríguez Jurado M.D. (Instituto Nacional de Pediatría). A presentation by Laura Vidales (“Aquí nadie se rinde”) completed the program.

2007 Team Sarcoma / Mexico

During the second Sarcoma Awareness Day 2007 held in Mexico City, the Mexican Association for Help of Children with Cancer, AMANC, together with The Pediatric National Institute, INP, Genomic Medicine National Institute and The Liddy Shriver Initiative, gathered with conferences and fun activities for children with sarcoma.

The lectures were given by Dr. Rocio Cardenas Head of the Pediatric Oncology Department, INP, Dr. David Velazquez also from the this Hospital, and Dr. Javier Gomez Medical Director at AMANC. There were also three testimonials of patients Victor, Marco & Ana.

More than 300 persons atended this event, including 41 patients who have fought their brave battle against cancer. All 41 patients were accompanied by their relatives, making this event unforgettable.

The activities were sponsored by YMCA volunteers and Sabritas, and everyone enjoyed the time together.
