Every day: July 17th- 25th
The Eastern Seaboard & Ohio Valley Regions of the United States

About 450 people participated in the first “Trucking for Sarcoma” event, which was organized and hosted by the GIST Cancer Awareness Foundation (GCAF).

“Trucking for Sarcoma” was held during International Sarcoma Awareness Week 2010. All drivers from Marine Transport Company helped raise awareness of Sarcoma with “Sarcoma Knows No Borders” placards on their trucks. They handed out 800 brochures detailing information about Sarcoma, and in particular, Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor. The drivers covered over 160,000 miles during the week driving throughout the East Coast, Ohio Valley and Chicago metro regions.

The Trucking for Sarcoma event raised $30,000 !!!

2010 Report: Team Sarcoma / Georgia

The 3rd Annual “Walk for Sarcoma Awareness”
Saturday, July 24th at 10:00am
Atlanta, Georgia

It was one of the hottest days on record for July, at 110 degrees here in Atlanta, but then again July is always hot in the south. We had our event in Piedmont Park again. Participants walked a lap around the meadow and then enjoyed lunch at the Park Tavern.

The event was a huge success! We had around 175 attendees (30 more than last year) and raised over $4,500.00 with donations still coming in. Feedback was great due to this year’s even more effecient location and ease of access for parking, walk staging etc… We had people attend from 3 and 4 states away! We have secured an official full time sponsorship for next year and expect it to be even better.

2009 Report: Team Sarcoma / Emory Winship Cancer Institute

2009 Team Sarcoma/ Emory Winship Cancer InstituteWalk for Sarcoma Awareness
July 24, 2009, in Atlanta, Georgia

Emory Winship Cancer Institute and the Southeastern Sarcoma Foundation hosted the 2nd Annual “Walk for Sarcoma Awareness” as part of the Team Sarcoma Initiative. The event was as superb success. We doubled last year’s attendance with 128 walkers and have raised more than $3,000.00 from donations at the walk. We celebrated the day with a great mix of sarcoma patients, survivors, caregivers, friends, family, supports and large contingent of the Emory Winship Sarcoma Department Team! Doctors, nurses, support staff and even development staff came out to walk and support. Every discipline (radiation, surgical and medical sarcoma oncology) had representatives walking. It truly was a perfect night. We started at 7pm and finished with a great dinner at Willy’s Mexicana Grill around 11pm.

This was a great opportunity to show support to the newly designated National Cancer Institute (NCI) Emory Winship Cancer Institute and its groundbreaking Sarcoma Department. The event was co-sponsored by the newly founded Southeastern Sarcoma Foundation, which has already donated over $7,500.00 directly to sarcoma research at Winship. The walk helped expose Sarcoma to the southeast and honored those who are survivors, caregivers and fallen heroes of sarcoma.

Emory Winship Cancer Institute and the Southeastern Sarcoma Foundation will host the 2nd Annual “Walk for Sarcoma Awareness” as part of the Team Sarcoma Initiative. The walk will take place at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park baseball fields (located next to the entrance to the public tennis courts). The event is co-sponsored by the newly founded Southeastern Sarcoma Foundation, which has already donated over $7,500.00 directly to sarcoma research at Winship. This is a family friendly event.
