Report: On Saturday, July 19, 2008, approximately 30 riders and hikers in Houston, Texas saddled up their horses and/or put on their hiking boots for the “Team Sarcoma Trail Ride” around the bayou near Intercontinental Airport. The event was sponsored by the Amschwand Sarcoma Cancer Foundation and was organized by ASCF board member Margaret Ling in honor of her son Benjamin who loved horses and who died of chondrosarcoma cancer in 2001. Before the ride there were pony cart rides for the children courtesy of Sasha, the mini horse! We had about ten horses participating and riders and hikers traded off riding and walking during two mile ride. Our youngest participant was three years old, and he completed the entire course – helped by his parents who carried him quite a bit of the way! We also raised $180 for the ASCF through the sale of Kristen Murray’s “Two by Two” T-shirts, which were purchased and worn by many of the participants. After the event there was a barbecue lunch and watermelon at Aldine Westfield Stables for everyone, with carrots for the horses. A great time was had by all!
