A Sarcoma Support Gathering
July 17-19, 2009, in Naperville, Illinois

Three families from the ACOR osteosarcoma support list traveled to Naperville for this very special weekend. It started Friday night with a dinner, and Target provided sandwiches, chips and cookies. After dinner, they played games together. It was a great time getting to know each other, laughing together and making new friends. On Saturday morning, 12 people arrived for the a morning chat, including 5 members of a family whose mother is battling sarcoma. A lot of information was exchanged, and it was wonderful making new friends.

Saturday night was the dinner, which included 22 people (the 3 families and 2 additional survivors and their families).  Dinner was a buffet of Italian beef sandwiches, salads, fruit and cake. There was also a raffle – Target donated a $50 gift card, and the local college donated 2 tickets to a theater production, as well as a few other things that were donated.

After dinner the group walked across the parking lot of the hotel to a beautiful spot along a pond. The rain held off and the wind died down as they lit the 96 luminaries. There were yellow bags for the survivors and warriors, and white ones for those no longer with us. It was extremely touching to watch the 6 survivors light their own luminaries and to light candles for others from the ACOR support group. All in all, 116 people participated in the event, either by traveling to Naperville or by virtually joining in the luminary service.
