More than 8,000 people in 14 countries participated in the 6th annual Team Sarcoma Initiative. Most of the events occurred during International Sarcoma Awareness Week, July 12-20, while the core team biked along the Danube River in Germany and Austria. The effort is described more fully in this article and in this press release.

  • Team Sarcoma / Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Team Sarcoma / St. Vincent’s Health was a week of sarcoma events in Melbourne, Australia from July 14-18.
• Austria
  • Team Sarcoma / Austria – St. Anna Kinderkrebsforschung met at Greifenstein and biked with the core team along the Danube on July 18.
  • The Core Team biked from Passau, Germany to Vienna, Austria from July 12-19.

  • Team Sarcoma / The Hospital for Sick Children hosted a Sarcoma Symposium on July 17 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

  • Team Sarcoma / Guang Dong held a day of sarcoma education and activities on July 12 at Baiyun Park in Guangzhou.
  • Team Sarcoma / TianJin Cancer Hospital held a week long event at Tianjin Cancer Hospital from July 12-19.
• Croatia
  • Team Sarcoma / Croatia provided Music and Knowledge Against Cancer at “Summer Nights in Zrinjevac” on July 17 in Zagreb.
• Denmark
  • Team Sarcoma / Vedersø biked Denmark’s west coast on July 13.
• Germany
  • The Core Team biked from Passau, Germany to Vienna, Austria from July 12-19.
  • Team Sarcoma / West German Cancer Center, Team Sarcoma / Das Lebenhaus and Team Sarcoma / Essen University Hospital hosted a lecture on July 17 and a bike tour/walk on July 26 in Essen, Germany.

  • Team Sarcoma/Mexican National Institute of Pediatrics, Team Sarcoma/National Institute of Genomic Medicine, and Team Sarcoma/We Will Never Give Up Foundation hosted a Sarcoma Update Workshop on July 16 in Mexico City.
  • Team Sarcoma/Mexican National Institute of Pediatrics and Team Sarcoma/We Will Never Give Up Foundation hosted a race and walk into the Olympic Stadium in Mexico City on July 20.

  • The Dutch Sarcoma Awareness Bridge Drive was held on July 5 in Leiden.
• New Zealand
  • Team Sarcoma / New Zealand held golf morning followed by tea and prizes in Lower Hutt on July 15.
• Poland
  • Team Sarcoma/Centrum Onkologii – Instytut im. M. Skłodowskiej-Curie and Team Sarcoma/Stowarzyszenie Pomocy Chorym na Mięsaki “SARCOMA” hosted a Sarcoma Awareness Day at the Oncology Center Institute in Warsaw on June 29.

  • Team Sarcoma / Alabama was a knit-a-thon and silent auction on July 18 and 19th at Serendipity Needleworks in Tuscaloosa.
• Arizona
  • Team Sarcoma / Arizona hosted a Sarcoma Update on July 16, 2008 in Tucson.
• California
  • Team Sarcoma / BeatSarcoma was a race from California to Hawaii on the BeatSarcoma Flagship Sailboat, starting July 14 in San Francisco.
  • Team Sarcoma / California – Los Angeles was a fun bike ride from the German Consulate in Los Angeles to the Alpine Village on July 9.
  • Team Sarcoma/ Northern California – Placerville was a walk and cycle event along the El Dorado Trail followed by a barbecue on July 19.
  • Team Sarcoma/ Santa Monica was a walk, run, cycle event that was followed by a picnic on the Santa Monica coast on July 12.
